Ocean Songs

They danced in the ocean…two old friends new again baptizing their love with saltwater. Throwing their bodies against the waves they raced futher away from the shore. They danced in the ocean rediscovering themselves…their love stronger than ever…losing and finding their meaning of existense again and again with each change in the rhythm of God’s playground. Their bodies tasted of salt; their tears of joy…and they swam and they swam…emersing themselves under currents, coming up only when their body willed them to. They swam and float and fought and laughed intoxicated by the magic of the water. And it was only until their bodies were so chilled from the lack of warmth from the drop in temperature from their blood did they come back onto the beach.> And they lay on the sand in silence..only their souls conversing. As the waves played a love song, the moon rose into the sky hanging the stars for a curtain. For each star hung in sight a wish was uttered, a prayer was said. The wind began to run off the water enveloping them…inviting them to embrace one another…their lungs were filled with mementos of their party and they wore a sheath of remembrance on their skin. He sketched blueprints of unconceived cities into the sand as she wrote her name in cursive with a stick. Later they would walk along the beach…her picking up shells, marveling at the elegance of their simplistic beauty while he unraveled to her the science of their scenery. They’d sink their bodies down into the sand and let the tide wash their feet. Drunken with serenity, they rushed back into the ocean naked…throwing each other under the water, flinging and flaying bits of the ocean that looked liked diamonds being thrown in the moonlight. Cold and tired they float now content to hold hands until they wander back into the beaches bed where they don clothes again and find a hiding place in a makeshift house on the sand and huddle their hugging. They fall asleep in each other’s arms, serenaded by the ocean’s song and the sound of their heartbeats.
